About Orwyn
Orwyn is surgeon-governed decision support for first-contact MSK clinicians in the NHS. It puts a consultant knee surgeon's written judgement, with its reasons, into the first contact consultation, and the clinician decides.
Dr Arj Imbuldeniya, founder: 100 words
Dr Arj Imbuldeniya is the founder of Orwyn and a consultant orthopaedic knee, hip and trauma surgeon. He has been an NHS consultant at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in London since 2015, and has more than 25 years in orthopaedics and musculoskeletal care. He trained at St Bartholomew's and The Royal London, completed dual fellowship training in Sydney and Barcelona, is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, and holds a Masters in Global Health Policy from Imperial College London. He is building Orwyn through the NHS Clinical Entrepreneur Programme (Cohort 10).
Dr Arj Imbuldeniya, founder: 250 words
Dr Arj Imbuldeniya is the founder of Orwyn, and a dual fellowship-trained consultant orthopaedic knee, hip and trauma surgeon with more than 25 years in orthopaedics and musculoskeletal care. He trained at St Bartholomew's and The Royal London, completed dual fellowship training in Sydney and Barcelona, is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, and holds a Masters in Global Health Policy from Imperial College London.
He has been an NHS consultant at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in London since 2015. His practice spans the full range of modern orthopaedics for the knee and hip, from biological and regenerative treatment through to robotic-assisted joint replacement, alongside trauma surgery.
For years, physiotherapists and first contact clinicians across West London have called or emailed him about a patient, and he has learned as much from those conversations as they have. That help only reaches clinicians who happen to have his email address. Orwyn exists so that it does not depend on knowing someone: it puts a surgeon's written judgement, with its reasons, into the first contact consultation, where the decision is made.
Orwyn is being built through the NHS Clinical Entrepreneur Programme (Cohort 10). It is an independent company.
