An independent review of past knee referrals is under way

An independent review of past knee referrals at two hospitals is under way. Two consultant surgeons are carrying it out, working separately from each other, and each judges the referrals against written criteria.

The review sets the starting point that any trial of Orwyn will be measured against. It is not a result, and no figures from it are published. Orwyn will not claim any results until an evaluation is complete and has been reviewed. What exists today, and what the first trial will measure, is set out on the evidence page.

Orwyn joins the NHS Clinical Entrepreneur Programme

Orwyn is being built through the NHS Clinical Entrepreneur Programme, Cohort 10: the NHS’s own programme for clinicians turning frontline experience into NHS innovation. The programme published a short profile of the founder, Dr Arj Imbuldeniya, consultant orthopaedic knee and hip surgeon.

Orwyn is surgeon-governed decision support for first contact MSK (musculoskeletal) clinicians. It puts a consultant knee surgeon’s written judgement, with its reasons, into the first contact consultation, and the clinician makes every decision. It starts with the knee, then the hip.

Taking part in the programme does not mean that the NHS has reviewed, approved or endorsed Orwyn.
